Street full of people with bluetooth devices

Bluetooth 101.

Bluetooth wireless technology is the simplest way to send content directly to mobile phones. It is a global standard for wirelessly connecting devices such as mobile phones, computers, cars, stereo headsets, MP3 players and more. It is built into over one billion mobile devices already, and over twelve million new devices are shipping every month. Qwikker uses Bluetooth to power its mobile content hotspots so downloads are always fast and free for mobile device users.

This section contains a spectrum of resources that enable you to learn more about Bluetooth, read through the Qwikker Best Practice List, or peruse our list of Frequently Asked Questions.

The Basics

Who is Qwikker?

Qwikker powers the world’s largest proximity based mobile marketing network, enabling brands to connect with consumers using an innovative solution. Qwikker offers customized solutions that “light up” traditional static advertising and can transmit music, videos, games, coupons, news and more to consumers who can download the content to their phones free of charge and without a data plan requirement. The Qwikker approach is both engaging and effective.

How does it work for consumers?

A user sees your out-of-home advertising with a clear call to action –such as “turn on your Bluetooth®.” They set their Bluetooth® to discoverable/ “Find Me” and receive a prompt to opt-in for a fast and free download. When the user opts-in (with one click), content is downloaded to their mobile device using Bluetooth® wireless technology.

What are the benefits of adding an interactive component to an advertising campaign?

With Qwikker, traditional advertising campaigns become interactive and engaging for consumers. Our technology creates Bluetooth®wireless technology hotspots which send content directly to mobile devices.

Delivering interactive mobile content allows you to:

  • Leave mobile users with something interesting and lasting on their phone, rather than solely an “eyeball” ad impression.
  • Precisely measure the response rates of your content-driven campaign.
  • Give consumers a means of directly responding to an ad on the spot and getting deeper information.
  • Establish a recurring dialogue with a consumer long after they have left the advertising location.
  • Enable consumers to share this message with other friends by forwarding viral mobile content.

What Is Bluetooth®?

Quick Facts:

  • Downloads take between 5 and 25 seconds depending on content size.
  • Bluetooth® wireless technology hotspots effective range for content delivery is 30 feet.
  • Bluetooth® wireless technology devices must be set to discoverable in order for content to be delivered.

Where can a Qwikker campaign be deployed?

Qwikker’s interactive network is available in public locations globally in conjunction with out-of-home media partners and other physical location partners, including retail, pubs, clubs, and theaters. Please contact your account representative for a list of locations.

What does it cost the consumer?

The basic delivery of content is totally free and immediate to the end user making it different from downloading via a short code which incurs a data fee on the consumer’s phone bill.

Is this permission based?

Yes. All content is delivered on an opt-in permission basis. Unlike SMS and email, it is not technically possible to fully transmit content over Bluetooth without first receiving permission from the end user, via a standard opt-in request message built into the mobile device. The system will not send repeated opt-in messages to a user who has opted out at a particular location.

Does every consumer who opts-in receive a download?

Every consumer who opts-in can receive a download of some kind. Mobile devices each have unique capabilities, and some enable “richer” user experiences than others.. The Qwikker system detects the make and model of the consumer’s mobile device, and downloads the best user experience for that specific device. For example, videos may be sent to phone that can play video clips, but still images to older phones that can’t play video.

Can I share content with my friends?

Yes. Once you have downloaded content you can forward it to other mobile devices via Bluetooth® wireless technology. This type of content transfer is more commonly referred to as peer-to-peer sharing.

How do I plan and design a mobile campaign?

Qwikker can help you put together a mobile campaign based on your existing media assets and creative. You do not need to know the specifics about mobile phone content or the various phones out there; our platform handles all of the necessary media conversion.

How do we measure our results?

Standard reports are delivered for each client as requested, usually within the first six business days of each month. More detailed, tailored, or frequently issued reports can be delivered upon request (model/make of responding end user devices) at an additional cost.

Elements of Qwikker Reports

  • Total responses –Total number of end user devices that were prompted and provided a accept/reject response back to the Qwikker unit
  • Opt-ins–Total number of end user devices that responded with an accept response back to a Qwikker unit
  • Opt-outs–Total number of end user devices that responded with a reject response back to a Qwikker unit
  • Opt-in %–percentage of people responding with an acceptout of all responders

You will receive cumulative reports for the entire duration of your campaign, reports monitoring all locations involved, and reports for all individual dates.

Campaign Content Design

What types of mobile content can I deliver?

The Qwikker system can deliver single media files, including Images, Wallpapers, Coupons, Ringtones, MP3s, Videos, and Java Games.
You can deliver a wide variety of popular content items including: music, videos, wallpapers, ring-tones, games and coupons. Most importantly, the content should be interesting, relevant and compelling. You can also deliver a mobile channel, which are collections of content links and information bundled into a single package-think the “full mobile experience.” See below for more info.

Can I charge for my content?

Yes. You may deliver premium content through the system that the user must pay for. Payment is automatically handled through the end user’s mobile phone bill. We do recommend always sending at least some free content in addition to any premium content.

What is the difference between a Mobile Channel and Single File Push?

A Single File Push is the delivery of one pre-selected content item such as a wallpaper or ringtone, to the mobile device. In addition to single media files, the Qwikker system can deliver an interactive package of multiple content items, information, and interactive components, delivered together as a Mobile Channel. A Mobile Channel is a customized java application that resides on the end user’s phone and can be accessed, or deleted, at any later time. Additional content items can be made available for download via the mobile channel, both through Bluetooth if the end user is near a Qwikker unit, or over the air (OTA) is the end user is no longer in the vicinity of a Qwikker unit.
